A brief history of Patrick Street Clinic

The medical company that has become the Patrick Street Clinic originated when Dr Lachlan Gollan became Ulverstone’s first resident doctor in around 1920, soon to be joined by Dr Ferris. This practice was based at what is now Gollan Court in King Edward Street . Dr Trevor Walker joined in about 1946, and following the retirement of the original partners, was joined by Drs. Don and Jean Brick in 1957.  Dr Tony Large bought out Dr Walker in 1960 and moved with the Bricks to new premises in King Edward Street that year. They were joined in 1964 by Dr John Stevens and in 1966 by Dr David Linahan, both contemporary students at Guys Hospital with Dr Tony Large.

This firm moved to the current location in Patrick Street in about 1981, and were joined by Dr Rosemary New in 1985.       Dr John Fisher replaced the retiring Dr Tony Large in 1992 and  Drs Gabe Shuster and Miranda Hudson (married) replaced the retiring Dr Linahan in 1994.  Dr Emil Djakic replaced the retiring Dr Stevens in 1996. In 1998, Dr Patrick O’Sullivan replaced Dr New who had left in 1996.   Dr Alison Wishaw, a Tasmanian graduate, joined as an associate in 1999. The building underwent a substantial extension in 1999 to improve facilities and enlarge waiting room for greater patient comfort.  The project also created an extra consulting room and staff area and reception.  Further extensive renovations including another consulting room, theatre, emergency room and treatment room were completed in 2006 creating a modern up-to-date medical facility.

Partners Drs Shuster and Hudson left in 2002 to return to relatives in U.K.   Dr Paul Marles joined as an associate in 2002. Dr Alison Whishaw ceased general practitioner work in 2002 but continues to practice, specialising in dermatology, desensitising and allergy testing.  Dr Marles relocated to Western Australia in October 2003.  Dr Nerrelie Cann joined as an associate in 2003 along with Dr Barbara Thomson and the welcome return of Dr Rosemary Duncan (New).  Dr Stefan Delitzsch joined as an associate in January 2005 and became a partner in July 2006.  Dr Rosemary Duncan relocated overseas in 2005 and now works at Port Sorell.  Dr Lizzie Shires joined as an associate in 2005.
